Red Bull Surf and Rescue 2015
America’s Oldest Beach Patrol Hosts Red Bull Surf and Rescue
The Atlantic City Beach Patrol was the first and is one of the oldest active beach lifeguarding institutions in the country. As it approaches its 125-year anniversary, it will host a new competition that will challenge beach patrols to find the strongest Surf Rescue team in the region. This event will take place on July 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Atlantic City Beach Patrol Headquarters, which is located on the beachfront of North Carolina Avenue.
This event will consist of 32 teams of four (three men and one woman) will represent every lifesaving squad from Rehoboth to Sandy Hook in a one-night tournament, focusing on the classic disciplines of swimming, prone board paddling, and rowing Van Duyne Surf Boats, the storied “unsinkable” boats built in New Jersey for beach patrols up and down the East Coast.

"I am excited to be working with Red Bull on such a unique sports event honoring Atlantic City’s Surf Lifesaving heritage,” said Stephen Del Monte, Event Producer and Founder and CEO of Delmo Sports. “As a producer of many participatory sporting events along the Jersey Shore, the history and traditions behind one of the oldest lifeguarding organizations in the country make it a natural fit. “We’re thrilled to bring in athletes from the New Jersey and Delaware coast to the area for a friendly competition,” said Del Monte.”
Natural elements like weather, current, tides and waves require beach lifeguards to be in peak physical condition in order to battle these conditions. Continuous training was necessary to maintain lifeguarding skill and knowledge, so formal competitions were created to challenge guards and provide a spectator event for summer crowds.
