The Race of the Century to Commence in Atlantic City

A True Century Race, Presented by Motorcycle Cannonball

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Wednesday, January 13, 2016) The Atlantic City Sports Commission has partnered with a unique event, The Race of the Century, presented by Motorcycle Cannonball, which will take place from September 10-25, 2016.

After many successful events, the Cannonball has become an American institution. Every two years, this event brings in riders from all around the world. On Saturday, September 10, 2016, 100 riders will depart from the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, New Jersey and travel 3,400 miles across the United States to cross the finish line in San Diego, California on Sunday, September 25.

The distinctiveness of this event is that riders participating in the 2016 Cannonball must have a 100 year old motorcycle, which can only consist of 1916 and earlier machines. This unique event limits the number of entrants allowed and only 100 riders will be chosen to participate in this historic ride from coast to coast.

“We are very excited to host this event in Atlantic City as the preparation and starting point for the race. The uniqueness and rarity of this type of event will give riders the ultimate experience while traveling across country,” said Jim Wood, president and CEO of Meet AC and the Atlantic City Sports Commission.

The event organizers have planned out a meticulous and specific route that is both scenic and challenging. The race includes sixteen days on the road with only one day off. The first and last days of the race will each be the shortest days, with a late morning start in Atlantic City, New Jersey and a mid-afternoon grand finish in San Diego, California. Most of the route will be on two-lane back roads with less than 100 miles on interstate highways and averaging around 300 miles per day. This race will truly test the rider’s endurance.

“This is our fourth event and this year’s event is special because of the requirements of the 100 year old motorcycles. We are looking forward to preparing and starting our race in Atlantic City,” said Lonnie Isam, Motorcycle Cannonball event promoter.
