Major League Triathlon to Take Place in Atlantic City
A Unique Event for Athletes and Spectators
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (January 20, 2017) – The Atlantic City Sports Commission is thrilled to announce that Major League Triathlon (MLT) will hold an event Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The triathlon will consist of 32 of the best professional triathletes in the world. Each athlete will swim 300 meters in the Atlantic Ocean, bike 4 miles and run 1 mile on the historic Boardwalk. This triathlon is unique because it’s short and fast paced, which engages and excites spectators.
Major League Triathlon is the first and only professional triathlon league in the United States. The best male and female athletes in the world compete against each other in a unique swim, bike and run team event. Held in major cities across the country, MLT pros compete in pop-up stadiums, allowing for a spectator experience unlike anything before seen in the sport. Major League Triathlon is more than just a race, it’s a show.
“We are incredibly excited to work with the Atlantic City Sports Commission to bring a Major League Triathlon event to Atlantic City. This is by far the most unique and exciting venue in our lineup this season. It isn’t often that you see 32 of the world’s best professional athletes biking and running on the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk,” stated Daniel Cassidy, chief executive officer, Major League Triathlon.
During the MLT event in Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Waves, Atlantic City’s own professional triathlon team will play host to seven additional MLT professional teams. The teams will face off in a super sprint mixed relay format, as described above. Each athlete will complete a quick swim, bike and run and then tag their next teammate in line. The first team to have all four athletes cross the finish line will win.
Major League Triathlon goes beyond racing and is the ultimate experience. This event is free and open to the general public. To add to the excitement, Ducktown Tavern will be hosting an outdoor after party following the professional race where fans can meet the MLT pros and enjoy music, food, beer and more.
“Ducktown Tavern is honored to be a part of the 2017 Major League Triathlon in Atlantic City. We are creating a new connection with MLT who is looking to do big things in AC, just as the locals are aspiring to do. MLT encourages the people of AC to become healthier and happier, which is something that we at Ducktown fully support. Join us in re-energizing Atlantic City,” said John C. Exadaktilos, owner, Ducktown Tavern.
